Mechanical Engineer

Laporte Consultants is looking for a highly technical Mechanical Engineer with plant experience to support our team throughout the United States near our Columbus, Chicago, or Philadelphia offices. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the design and construction of plant & HVAC systems in the pharmaceutical, life sciences or food & beverage industries and will be able to support manufacturing plant building systems.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Participate in client needs analysis and project definition
  • Lead all project phases and deliver the agreed scope, timelines and budget
  • Design a variety of manufacturing plant systems
  • Prepare drawings and specifications
  • Evaluate and select equipment, technologies and suppliers
  • Partner with cross functional team members
  • Supervise equipment installation, start-up and qualification
  • Visit project sites for information and project related activities

Key requirements:

  • Experience in designing detailed plans
  • Excellent skills in technical support, troubleshooting and AutoCAD
  • Experience in consulting engineering an asset
  • Experience in Process Engineering preferred (light industrial, food and beverage or pharmaceutical facilities)
  • Solid knowledge of ASME, NFPA and other applicable local standards
  • Knowledge in pipe stress analysis and process piping design is an asset
  • Able to travel to client sites in the USA, when required

Preferred but not required qualification:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in a US state and willingness to obtain more
