Food Process Engineer (Intermediate)

Responsibilities and Duties:
Located in Vancouver, BC and reporting to the Operations Director, the engineer will be responsible to support and lead the process engineering requirements for client projects.
- Participate in client needs and project definition
- Review Client Specifications
- Lead all project phases and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, defined scope, timelines and budget
- Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed designs, drawings and specifications
- Review engineering deliverables, maintain high standards of quality and define project risks
- Conduct work in accordance with Laporte Professional Practice Management Plan guidelines
- Write technical reports and analysis to support design submissions
- Review shop drawings for compliance & participate in development of engineering standards
- Obtain proposals from and follow-up with suppliers and contractors
- Visit and survey project sites for project related activities
- Perform project management (estimated 50% of workload)
- Perform mechanical or process design (estimated 50% of workload)
- Process and packaging experience
- Work collaboratively as part of multi-disciplinary design teams
- Chair project team meetings
- Maintain detailed understanding of codes and standards applicable to industry and projects
- Maintain a reference set of codes, standards and in-house best practices
- Maintain the development and committee review of drawings and specifications
- Suggest, contribute and champion initiatives to improve the firm’s operations and procedures
- Support positive client and other discipline consultants interactions
- Pursue opportunities for business development and future growth of the organization across various regions
Basic Qualifications
- BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related fields
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in the area of process design for the food and beverage industry
- Experience in the design of sanitary process systems including piping, vessels and CIP systems
Preferred Qualifications
- PEng designation for professional registration will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements
- Strong leadership, relationship management, and organizational planning and project management skills, in addition to technical knowledge
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Knowledge of post-implementation continuous improvement efforts and methodology
- Ability to influence clients, suppliers and peers into adopting « best practices » in the engineering field
- Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, listening and interpersonal with the ability to transfer knowledge to others
- Capability to engage and energize others to reach their fullest potential and performance
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma
- Versatility in disciplines other than the one academically trained for is highly desired
- Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite
- Flexibility to travel to external manufacturing sites as needed
Travel is expected for this position.
