Mechanical Engineer



As part of an integrated project team, this mechanical engineer in training will design food & beverage process systems. Located in Edmonton, AB this individual will report to the Lead Engineer.



  • Participate in client needs and project definition;
  • Contribute to all project phases and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, defined scope, timelines and budget;
  • Design industrial, clean and plant utilities / HVAC / plumbing systems / steam / refrigeration;
  • Design of dust collection systems;
  • Prepare engineering drawings and specifications;
  • Evaluate and select equipment technologies and suppliers;
  • Maintain a reference set of codes, standards and in-house best practices;
  • Review Clients Specifications;
  • Write technical reports and analysis to support design submissions;
  • Review shop drawings for compliance & participate in development of engineering standards;
  • Obtain proposals from and follow-up with suppliers and contractors;
  • Partner with cross functional project team members;
  • Visit and survey project sites for project related activities;
  • Conduct work in accordance with Laporte Professional Practice Management Plan guidelines;
  • Support business development activities.


Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (building Systems);
  • 2-5 years of experience in building HVAC, plumbing and drainage, refrigeration, fire protection, steam and hot water system design;
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical codes and standards including ASHRAE and NFPA;
  • Excellent skills in technical support and troubleshooting;
  • Flexibility to travel;
  • Consulting experience is an asset.
